BREAKING:Association of Movie practitioners (AMPRAC) Suspends and Sacks Anambra Ex-Secretary, Ben Okwudili a.k.a Lumen, Over Gross Misconduct and Threat to Life declares him wanted .
In a bold and decisive move to uphold discipline and integrity within the creative sector, the National Executive Council of the Association of Movie Practitioners (AMPRAC) has officially suspended and dismissed Mr. Ben Okwudili, popularly known as Lumen, from his position as Secretary of the Anambra State Chapter. This decision comes on the heels of multiple allegations of gross misconduct, threats to life, and violation of the association's code of conduct.
According to a formal statement released by the National President of AMPRAC, Chief Ifeanyi Azodo and others
Chief Chimdi Chiama, Elder Osondu Odom, Dr. Tony Ibekwe Jnr.
the disciplinary action was taken after a thorough review of reports detailing Mr. Okwudili’s erratic behavior, including issuing threats to life directed at the state executives and the chapter chairman. Such conduct, the council stated, poses a serious risk not only to individuals within the guild but also to the peace and unity of the entire Nollywood industry.
Nollywood Takes Stand: Six-Month Industry-Wide Suspension
In a rare but resolute decision, Nollywood leadership at large has echoed AMPRAC’s verdict, issuing a six-month suspension on Mr. Ben Okwudili. The film industry has categorically barred him from associating with filmmakers, producers, actors, and content creators across Nigeria during this period.
A communique from Nollywood’s coalition of guilds emphasized that Mr. Okwudili should neither be seen at movie sets nor be involved in any form of film or content-related activity. He is to be treated as a persona non grata in Nollywood until the suspension period is over, pending a reevaluation of his conduct.
The communiqué further described Mr. Okwudili as “a volatile individual whose presence threatens the peaceful co-existence of practitioners in the industry.” It warns all stakeholders in the creative community to steer clear of him as a matter of professional safety and industry ethics.
AMPRAC Executive Council's Official Statement
The AMPRAC National Executive Council, in its official suspension letter, stated:
> “Following a series of disturbing reports, audio evidence, and verified threats of violence issued by Mr. Ben Okwudili against members of AMPRAC Anambra State Chapter, including the State Chairman and Excos, the National Council hereby announces his indefinite suspension and immediate dismissal from his secretarial role. The decision was reached after extensive deliberations and in accordance with AMPRAC’s constitutional provisions on member conduct and professional decorum.”
The statement, signed and authorized by Chief Ifeanyi Azodo, urges all state chapters and industry stakeholders to enforce the disciplinary measure and blacklist the individual from all AMPRAC-related and Nollywood engagements.
A Dangerous Precedent in Nollywood?
Ben Okwudili’s case has sent ripples across the Nollywood community, with many industry leaders and veterans calling for stricter enforcement of codes of conduct within associations. Threats of violence, factional sabotage, and unprofessional behavior, they argue, must be rooted out to preserve the progress made in Nigeria’s creative industry.
This development serves as a clear warning to all movie practitioners that no one is above the law or the ethical standards of the guilds. AMPRAC’s leadership has vowed to continue its cleansing process and ensure that only disciplined, passionate, and responsible individuals hold office or participate in its activities.
Moving Forward
The film community, especially in Anambra State, has been urged to remain calm and united in the wake of this disciplinary action. While some members expressed shock at the extent of Mr. Okwudili’s misconduct, many have commended AMPRAC and Nollywood leadership for acting swiftly to protect the dignity and safety of its practitioners.
Mr. Ben Okwudili, as of the time of this publication, has not issued a public statement in response to his suspension and dismissal.
